Warrensburg, MO (November 16, 2018)—Kellie Baker, RN, a Patient Care Supervisor at Western Missouri Medical Center (WMMC) was honored as a “Nurse of the Year” award recipient at the Annual March of Dimes – Kansas City Nurse of the Year Awards on Saturday, November 3, 2018.

“I work with an amazing health care team,” said Kellie Baker, RN. “I am very honored, but all that were nominated were just as deserving.”

Wilson was nominated by Karen Caldwell, RN BC, BSN, MSN, for “Nurse of the Year” under the rural health/critical access category.

“Kellie has been an excellent asset to WMMC as a Patient Care Supervisor,” said Karen. “I am grateful for her passion for nursing and willingness to go above and beyond for the staff and patients at WMMC. I am so proud of her for earning this well-deserved recognition.”

“Kellie is an excellent nurse, she is committed to ensuring that each patient receives the highest quality of care,” said Jennifer Koepke, RN, MHSA, CPHQ, Vice President of Patient Care Services/Chief Nursing Officer. “She is the nurse you want at yours or your loved ones bedside. Kellie has a passion for education—both her own as well as teaching others.”

Baker was hired at WMMC in 1991 as a nurse technician and unit secretary. In 1995, she graduated from Warrensburg Votech School and began working as an LPN on the Skilled Nursing Unit, Medical/Surgical Unit, and was also a house float nurse. Soon Baker went full time in the Emergency Department and was there for 15 years. She then graduated from Excelsior College as a Registered Nurse in 2012, and has been working as a Patient Care Supervisor since.

Sixteen nurses from WMMC were nominated for awards, and four were recognized as finalists at the Annual March of Dimes – Kansas City Award Banquet. Kimberly Smith, RN; Kellie Baker, RN; and Mandy Shull, RN; were recognized as finalists in the Rural Health/Critical Access category. Kindra Wellman, RN, BSN, was a finalist in the Emergency/Transport category. Congratulations to all that were nominated!
