In the fall, ReDefine Medical Spa, powered by Western Missouri Medical Center, will open downtown Warrensburg, MO. We’re excited to offer several services such as fillers, cosmetic injections, infusions, laser hair removal, facials, skin tightening treatments, and more. One unique service we will also offer patients is Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) Therapy. IPL Therapy is used to minimize and remove:

  • Age spots
  • Sun damage
  • Freckles
  • Birthmarks
  • Varicose Veins
  • Broken blood vessels
  • Rosacea

What is IPL Therapy?

IPL Therapy is similar to laser treatment; however, one key difference is that IPL Therapy releases light in different wavelengths, and the light is more scattered and less focused than a laser. IPL Therapy penetrates down to the second layer of your skin without harming the top layer, sending numerous wavelengths of pulsating light to treat various conditions at once.

How often and how many treatments do I need?

For the best results, it is recommended patients receive four to six treatments scheduled four weeks apart. Every treatment builds from the previous one, allowing the skin to react gradually. Scheduling appointments every four weeks allows the body to recover and return to normal before the next appointment. Results have found that IPL Therapy treatments reduce conditions up to 75 percent after four months.

Are there any risks?

After receiving IPL Therapy, you may experience redness or swelling. Other side effects such as bruising, blistering, and changes in skin color can be expected depending on your treatment plan. To treat these side effects, you can use ice packs or a cool washcloth for a couple of hours. Moisturizing is also important. Apply lotion to the treated areas, and use sunscreen whenever you go outside to protect the treated areas.

What are the benefits of IPL Therapy?

Not only is IPL Therapy treatment non-invasive, but IPL Therapy sessions are quicker than other types of similar therapies. The recovery time is faster, too. The duration of treatment usually lasts 30 to 40 minutes a session. IPL Therapy only takes four to six sessions to finish treatment, depending on your condition. Makeup can be worn immediately after a session, and most individuals can return to work the same day.

Cost of Procedure

IPL Therapy treatments vary in price, depending on what type of treatment is needed and the duration. Most health insurances and health savings accounts do not cover IPL Therapy treatments, as they are deemed cosmetic, so most treatments are an out-of-pocket expense. ReDefine’s IPL Therapy treatment prices will be released soon.
