WMMC is the Official Healthcare Provider for UCM
Warrensburg, MO (September 21, 2018) — Western Missouri Medical Center (WMMC) is proud to announce becoming the Offical Healthcare Provider for University of Central Missouri (UCM) Athletics.
WMMC has three board-certified, fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeons, as well the Central Family & Sports Medicine clinic that has four board-certified sports medicine doctors. Two of the providers at Central Family & Sports Medicine are official UCM Team Physicians.
Drew Glover, M.D. and UCM Team Physician encourages students to get EKG screenings before starting athletics programs. “In a ten-year study in NCAA athletes 60% of the sudden cardiac deaths over that time period could have been detected with a screening EKG,” says Dr. Glover.
EKG screenings, also known as athletic heart screenings, can potentially detect life threating conditions to prevent sudden cardiac death. The screening is recommended once in high school and then once again in college, and if the two screenings are normal, the screening does not need to be repeated. The test typically takes five minutes, is non-invasive and only cost $20 when combined with a physical.
