Western Missouri Medical Center Nurse Named March of Dimes – Kansas City “Nurse of the Year!”

Warrensburg, MO (November 17, 2017)—Brandy Wilson, RN, a nurse on the Medical Nursing Unit at Western Missouri Medical Center (WMMC) was honored as a “Nurse of the Year” award recipient at the Annual March of Dimes – Kansas City Nurse of the Year Awards on Saturday, November 11.

“I am so surprised, humbled and grateful to be recognized for doing a job that I love,” said Brandy Wilson, RN. “I have wanted to be a nurse since I was a teenager and love having the opportunity to work with all of the great nurses at WMMC.”

Wilson was nominated by Karen Caldwell, RN BC, BSN, MSN, for “Nurse of the Year” under the rural health/critical access category.

“Brandy has been an excellent asset to the Medical/Surgical Unit at WMMC,” said Karen Caldwell, RN BC, BSN, MSN. “We are so grateful to have her compassion and positive attitude on our team and I am so proud of her for earning this well-deserved recognition.”

 

“Brandy embodies all of the core attributes of an exceptional nurse—caring, compassionate, knowledgeable and always putting her patients first,” said Jennifer Koepke, RN, MHSA, CPHQ, Vice President of Patient Care Services/Chief Nursing Officer. “She is frequently recognized by her patients and co-workers for her dedication to our patients.”

Wilson graduated from State Fair Community College with her Associate’s Degree in Nursing in May 2014. Through doing her capstone at WMMC, Wilson knew this is where she wanted to work. She has been on the Medical/Surgical Unit since graduation.

Nineteen nurses from WMMC were nominated for awards with three being recognized as finalists at the Annual March of Dimes – Kansas City Award Banquet. Brandy Wilson, RN; Ashley Richardson, RN; and Allison Steelman, RN, BSN; were recognized as finalists in the rural health/critical access category.

This is the second year in a row that WMMC has had a staff member recognized for this prestigious award. Last year, Tammy Jackson, MBA, BSN, RN, was honored as the Kansas City “Nurse of the Year” for case management/care coordination.

The March of Dimes Nurse of the Year Awards is a black tie gala that recognizes exceptional nurses from across Kansas and the Greater Kansas City metropolitan area.
