Warrensburg, MO (Octubre 28, 2026) —Western Missouri Medical Center (WMMC) is pleased to welcome James Kerns, M.D., to its Obstetrics and Gynecology team through its partnership with Missouri Valley Regional Medical Center (MVRC).
Dr. Kerns brings more than 35 years of experience in obstetrics and gynecology and has cared for patients in the Marshall area since 2020. As part of the partnership between WMMC and MVRC, he will continue caring for his established patients and be part of a coordinated care model for expectant mothers in the Marshall area.
Throughout his career, Dr. Kerns has served in a variety of clinical, academic and leadership roles, including as an attending physician, medical director, department chair and OB/GYN clerkship director. He has also served as a clinical faculty member and preceptor for medical students and residents.
Dr. Kerns earned his medical degree from the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Chicago and completed his residency training in obstetrics and gynecology at MacNeal Hospital/University of Illinois Hospitals and South Baltimore General Hospital. He also holds a Master of Business Administration in Health Care from St. Ambrose University.
“We are pleased to welcome Dr. Kerns to WMMC and continue building our partnership with Missouri Valley Regional Medical Center,” said Darinda J. Dick, President/CEO of WMMC. “His extensive experience in obstetrics and gynecology and his longstanding commitment to patient care and medical education will be a valuable addition to our team and the care available to families throughout the region.”
Dr. Kerns is board certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and is a member of the American Medical Association, American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine, American Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology, and Association of Professors of Gynecology & Obstetrics.
WMMC’s Obstetrics and Gynecology team includes four board-certified OB/GYNs, three certified nurse-midwives, three family medicine physicians with obstetrics and surgical training, and a family nurse practitioner specializing in obstetric care. WMMC welcomes more than 700 babies each year and provides care throughout pregnancy, labor and delivery, and recovery.
Under the planned care model, patients may continue seeing Dr. Kerns for prenatal care in Marshall or Warrensburg until approximately 34 weeks of pregnancy. At approximately 34 weeks, patients will transition to WMMC for the remainder of their pregnancy and delivery. WMMC and MVRC teams will work together to help make that transition as smooth as possible for each family.
