WMMC’s Diabetes Education Program Earns American Diabetes Association Recognition

Warrensburg, Missouri — Western Missouri Medical Center (WMMC) is proud to announce that its Diabetes Self-Management Education and Support (DSMES) Program has received a Certificate of Recognition from the American Diabetes Association (ADA) for meeting the organization’s National Standards for Diabetes Self-Management Education and Support.

This recognition is an important achievement for WMMC and reflects the quality of diabetes education and support provided to patients. Diabetes affects individuals and families throughout the community, and WMMC is committed to providing knowledgeable care and practical resources that help patients better manage their health.

“Receiving this recognition is a reflection of the commitment our team brings to caring for patients every day,” said Darinda J. Dick, President/CEO of WMMC. “We are proud to offer resources that help people better understand their diabetes, make informed decisions about their health, and feel supported in managing their condition.”

Jessie Hibbs, RD, LD, is part of WMMC’s Nutrition & Diabetes Services team and leads the diabetes education program, providing specialized education and nutrition support to patients living with diabetes. The Nutrition & Diabetes Services team also provides inpatient and outpatient nutrition care, including support for healthy eating, heart health, weight management, sports nutrition, and other nutrition needs.

WMMC also offers the Diabetes Education and Empowerment Program (DEEP), an eight-week, free program designed to give individuals additional tools and support for managing diabetes. Led by certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialists, DEEP uses interactive activities and group discussions to make diabetes education practical and engaging. The next program will take place in March and April 2027, with registration available at wmmc.com/DEEP.

The ADA recognition, along with WMMC’s Nutrition & Diabetes Services and DEEP program, reflects WMMC’s commitment to providing patients with education, expertise, and resources to support their health at every stage of their diabetes journey.
