Family Donates CuddleCot to WMMC OB Department

Warrensburg, MO (May 1, 2017)—Coping with the loss of a child due to a stillborn delivery is difficult. But thanks to the generosity of Addison’s Grace, a local, not-for-profit organization, there is help for families dealing with this tragedy. The organization donated a CuddleCot to the Western Missouri Medical Center (WMMC) OB Department on Saturday, April 29.

The CuddleCot is used to help families with the grieving process due to the loss of their infant in the tragic event of a stillborn delivery. The specially designed cot is a cooling unit that allows families extra time to spend with their baby by regulating the baby’s body temperature, extending the opportunity for the family to say their goodbyes. This is the first CuddleCot for WMMC OB.

“Our staff in labor and delivery is passionate about the care for every mother, child and family at WMMC. Words cannot express the grief a family feels with the loss of a child,” said Amy McCartney, Manager of Obstetrics. “Our hope is to help lessen the pain, by offering ways to comfort the family during a difficult time such this. The generous donation by Addison’s Grace is another way our caring staff can hopefully help the family grieve by extending their time with their baby.”
