Who We Are

The WMMC Auxiliary is a supportive branch of WMMC. They host fundraisers throughout the year to raise funds to purchase medical equipment and award scholarships to students pursuing healthcare careers. The Auxiliary runs the Wishing Well Gift Shop, located in WMMC’s Main Entrance.

Since the founding of the Auxiliary in 1968, over $775,000 has been given to benefit our Medical Center and its patients. In addition, the Auxiliary has provided over $119,000 in scholarships.

Auxiliary Efforts

The Auxiliary continues its efforts while living out its “Service is our Purpose” motto. To that end, the more than 250 members of the WMMC Auxiliary serve WMMC in a variety of meaningful ways. More than 100 volunteers staff the Wishing Well Gift Shop and three hospital lobbies, contributing nearly 13,000 volunteer hours annually. The Auxiliary also hosts fundraisers throughout the year to support healthcare career scholarships and equipment purchases for WMMC, including the Annual Ice Cream Social, Holiday Sale, Book Fairs, Jewelry Fairs and Linen Fairs.

In addition, Auxiliary members provide handmade comfort pillows for surgery patients, specially made bras for post-mastectomy patients and teddy bears for pediatric surgery patients. They also distribute baskets and treats to staff on May Day and Halloween, present a gift basket to the first baby of the New Year born at WMMC and provide memory boxes to families of stillborn infants.

Joining the WMMC Auxiliary is a perfect opportunity to give back to our community and create great friendships. First-year dues are $20 and include a jacket or polo. After the first year, annual dues are $10 or a lifetime membership may be purchased for $50.

Scholarship

The WMMC Auxiliary sponsors health career scholarships for Johnson County residents or those attending University of Central Missouri, State Fair Community College or University of Missouri – KC that are pursuing a career in healthcare in any health care field.

The Auxiliary Scholarship Committee review all complete applications and recipients are selected based on financial need, scholastic ability, work plans and a demonstrated interest in health care.

Applications are available in the spring each year and should be completed no later than April 1st each year.

PLEASE NOTE: Incomplete applications will not be considered.

Wishing Well Gift Shop

The Wishing Well Gift Shop is operated by the WMMC Auxiliary. Every purchase provides funding to the WMMC Auxiliary, which supports Western Missouri Medical Center and its patients — funding equipment, patient care, scholarships and more.

The gift shop is located inside the Main Entrance to the right, just past the Courtyard Café.
