Warrensburg, MO — Western Missouri Medical Center (WMMC) is proud to announce that Dr. Brandon Machicao, General Surgeon, has been named the KCOM Regional Preceptor of the Year by A.T. Still University-Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine (ATSU).
The award honors healthcare professionals who demonstrate outstanding mentorship and teaching during clinical rotations. Dr. Machicao was recognized by students for his dedication to education and his commitment to making them feel like valued members of the care team.
Dr. Machicao performs a wide range of surgical procedures and is known for his patient-centered approach and hands-on teaching style. His guidance has helped students build confidence in the operating room and inspired some to pursue careers in surgery.
One student shared that Dr. Machicao’s mentorship influenced their decision to pursue surgery over another specialty. Another highlighted how he encourages students to take an active role in patient care, providing meaningful, real-world experience.
“Dr. Machicao takes the time to teach and ensures students are fully engaged in clinical learning,” the students said. “His mentorship has had a lasting impact on our growth as future physicians.”
Darinda Dick, CEO and President of WMMC, added, “Our partnership with ATSU provides invaluable clinical experience for student doctors, and Dr. Machicao exemplifies what it means to be an outstanding preceptor. We are proud of this program and the lasting impact it will have on the next generation of physicians.”
