Patient Care Technician Training at WMMC Provides “Earn as You Learn” Career Pathway

Warrensburg, MO – Western Missouri Medical Center (WMMC) is now accepting applications for a new Patient Care Technician (PCT) training program, providing an opportunity for participants to earn an hourly wage while earning their PCT certification in as little as six weeks.

Patient Care Technicians (PCTs) serve a vital role in healthcare, often collaborating with nurses, physicians and other healthcare professionals to perform a wide variety of essential tasks to meet patients’ needs. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the employment rate for patient care technicians is expected to increase by 8% by 2030, outpacing the average growth rate for all occupations.

Participants in the training program will work 36 hours per week as paid employees while receiving online instruction, hands-on training and real-world experience at the hospital under the supervision of WMMC’s healthcare team. Those who complete the program and pass their Certified Patient Care Technician/Assistant (CPCT) exam will earn their PCT certification, as well as a $1 hourly wage increase as they begin a 12-month work commitment at WMMC. Costs of the PCT training program will be waived upon completion of the 12-month work commitment.

Participants must have a high school diploma or equivalent to qualify for the program. Prior healthcare experience is not required, and students can complete the required Basic Life Support course for healthcare providers through the program.

The first 6-week training session will begin Monday, Nov. 4, 2024. For more information or to apply for the program, visit wmmc.com/pct-training, or contact Maria Embry, Talent Acquisition Specialist, at 660-262-7462 or mbahner@wmmc.com.
