Patient Care Technician Training Program at WMMC

Patient Care Technicians (PCTs) serve a vital role in healthcare, collaborating with nurses, physicians and other healthcare professionals to perform a wide variety of essential tasks to deliver high quality patient care. Western Missouri Medical Center’s PCT Training Program provides the hands-on training and education necessary for participants to begin this rewarding career in healthcare.

WMMC’s 6-week program allows students to work 36 hours per week as paid employees while receiving online instruction, hands-on training and real-world experience at WMMC under the supervision of our expert healthcare team. Students who complete this paid program and pass their Certified Patient Care Technician/Assistant (CPCT) exam will earn their PCT certification, as well as a $1 hourly wage increase as they begin a 12-month work commitment as a PCT at WMMC. Costs of the PCT training program will be waived upon completion of the 12-month work commitment.

Prior healthcare experience is not required, and students can complete the required Basic Life Support course for healthcare providers through the program.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the qualifications for this program?
A high school diploma or equivalent is required to participate in the program. No prior healthcare experience is required. Candidates accepted to the program are required to complete Basic Life Support (BLS) training within one month of their hiring date. Participants must work well among a diverse team and adhere to the established policies, procedures, and practices prescribed by the hospital/clinic.

Will I be paid while participating in the program?
Yes, program participants will be paid an hourly wage for each hour of clinical work and classroom work. Students who pass their Certified Patient Care Technician/Assistant (CPCT) exam will earn a $1 hourly wage increase as they begin their 12-month work commitment at WMMC.

Where do I take the certification exam, and how much does it cost? 
WMMC will facilitate the exam through the hospital and will cover fees for each participant’s certification.

What happens after I complete the program?
