WMMC Launches Tele-Neurology Partnership
with Research Medical Center

Warrensburg, MO (February 12, 2019) — Western Missouri Medical Center (WMMC) is pleased to announce the launch of the tele-neurology program on Feb. 5, 2019, which was made possible through a partnership with Research Medical Center, part of HCA Midwest Health, the region’s leading healthcare provider.

Patients and caregivers at WMMC now have 24-hour, on-call access to award-winning, leading stroke and neuroscience experts through TeleStroke at Research Medical Center. A neurologist will be able to assess and monitor a patients’ heart rate, breath sounds, observe mobility in arms and legs, and check vision and hearing via a telemedicine robot.

The first 60 minutes following a stroke, referred to as the ‘golden hour’ are crucial,” said Darinda Reberry, WMMC President and Chief Executive Officer. “As a designated Level III Stroke Center, WMMC is a referral center, meaning that we are equipped to provide life-saving treatment during that ‘golden hour’ instead of patients spending that time going to the city for stroke care. With that addition of a tele-neurology program, we are improving access to specialist care to continue providing vital care during critical moments.”

“It takes an accomplished team of professionals working together to ensure that more people not just survive a stroke, but recover with as few lasting complications as possible,” says Research Medical Center Chief Executive Officer Jackie DeSouza-Van Blaricum. “Every second counts when it comes to a stroke and Research Medical Center is proud to deliver world-class technology and neurological resources through the TeleStroke Network to Western Missouri Medical Center and its patients. It’s an important partnership that overcomes geography and transportation with reliable technology.”
