Warrensburg, MO — The Western Missouri Medical Center (WMMC) Auxiliary is continuing its commitment to improving patient care by funding several equipment requests submitted by hospital departments. The selected items will enhance care across the Cancer and Infusion Center, Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation, Western Missouri Sport & Rehab, and Pain Clinic.
Each year, the Auxiliary invites WMMC leaders to submit requests for patient care equipment and department needs that would have a meaningful impact on patients and caregivers. After reviewing submissions, the Auxiliary Board selected equipment that supports safer care, improves patient comfort, and expands treatment capabilities throughout the hospital.
“Every piece of equipment purchased through the generosity of our Auxiliary members represents an investment in better patient care,” said Darinda J. Dick, MSN, RN, FACHE, President and CEO of Western Missouri Medical Center. “These enhancements allow our care teams to provide safer, more effective, and more personalized treatment while improving the experience of patients throughout their recovery journey. We are incredibly grateful for the Auxiliary’s continued partnership and dedication to our hospital.”
The Auxiliary approved funding for the following equipment:
- Wheelchair-accessible scale for the Cancer and Infusion Center: This scale will allow patients who use wheelchairs to be weighed safely and accurately without requiring difficult transfers. Accurate weights are essential for medication dosing, treatment planning, and ongoing cancer care.
- Adjustable Bowflex dumbbells for Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation: This equipment will allow therapists to better customize strength training plans for patients recovering from cardiac events while also supporting Outpatient Rehabilitation services.
- Prone positioner and headrest for the Pain Clinic: This equipment will replace well-used positioning tools, improving patient comfort and helping providers achieve proper positioning during image-guided procedures.
- Strength training equipment for Western Missouri Sport & Rehab: New equipment, including a squat rack, barbell, weight plates, adjustable bench, and anti-slip mats, will expand rehabilitation capabilities and help patients safely rebuild strength, improve mobility, reduce fall risk, and return to everyday activities.
“The Auxiliary has always been focused on meeting the needs of our hospital and the patients we serve,” said Margo Smith, President of the WMMC Auxiliary. “We are proud to support projects that make a meaningful difference for patients and caregivers every day. Knowing these purchases will directly improve comfort, safety, and recovery for so many people makes this investment especially rewarding.”
The WMMC Auxiliary has supported the hospital since 1968 through volunteerism, fundraising, and community involvement. Through proceeds from the Wishing Well Gift Shop, community events, and other fundraising efforts, the Auxiliary continues to invest in equipment, patient programs, and scholarships that strengthen healthcare throughout the region.
“By funding requests identified by our frontline teams, the Auxiliary helps ensure our caregivers have the tools they need to provide exceptional care,” said Dick. “Their continued generosity allows us to make improvements that directly benefit our patients and community.”
