Ladies’ Night Out Honorary Survivor Michelle Schubert sitting on pink Mustang

Warrensburg, MO (October 7, 2021)—Western Missouri Medical Center (WMMC) kicked off Breast Cancer Awareness month by hosting its 9th Annual Ladies’ Night Out (LNO) Event on October 5 at the UCM Multipurpose Building. This event promoted breast health awareness and encouraged women to get their annual mammograms through fun giveaways, raffles, and a keynote speaker.

This annual event strives for two goals: to raise awareness on the importance of preventative screenings and to raise funds for the WMMC Foundation to support and enhance the Medical Center’s mission. LNO raised $18,735 and had 474 people purchase tickets to help raise awareness for breast cancer. This event resulted in 82 women registering for their annual mammogram. Overall, this event produced more than 500 in attendance including ticket holders, volunteers, and vendors.

LNO ticket holders also received a rose gold tote with goodies as well as a custom t-shirt. There were over 15 raffles given away, including $1,000 in cash prizes to women who scheduled their mammograms.

The guest speaker for the evening was Michelle Schubert, a breast cancer survivor. Michelle attended LNO last year and scheduled a mammogram as a result. Following her mammogram, she was diagnosed with Stage IIIA Carcinoma, an aggressive form of breast cancer. Michelle soon began treatment in December of 2020 and is now on the road to recovery. While Michelle still has a long journey ahead, she is an advocate for early detection and taking the time for mammograms. At the event, Michelle shared about the importance of taking time to schedule your mammogram so that breast cancer doesn’t take any more time from you than it has to.

One in eight women will have breast cancer, and Missouri women have one less barrier in their fight against breast cancer. Insurance providers are required to cover the cost of 3D mammography starting at age 40. Don’t wait until the unthinkable occurs and schedule a mammogram today through WMMC Centralized Scheduling Department at (660) 262-7370.
