WMMC CEO Darinda J. Dick Earns CHIME’s Healthcare Hero Designation

Darinda J. Dick, President/CEO, named a Healthcare Hero by the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHIME)

Warrensburg, MO (November 13, 2020)—Western Missouri Medical Center’s (WMMC) CEO Darinda J. Dick has been named a Healthcare Hero by the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHIME) for outstanding service during the COVID-19 pandemic. CHIME winners are recognized for their extraordinary innovation and dedication to the COVID-19 response, offering digital healthcare solutions and prioritizing their community’s health.

WMMC has endured numerous challenges during the COVID-19 global pandemic and has worked swiftly and diligently to make critical, life-saving decisions that have protected and supported our patients, caregivers, colleagues, and our community. Within days of COVID-19’s elevation to a world pandemic, Darinda made it her priority to ensure that there were procedures and equipment in place to make our staff feel safe doing their job, which in turn kept their families and patients safe.

WMMC’s initiatives included:

  • Becoming the first facility in the region and second in the entire state to offer drive-thru evaluations and testing.
  • Launching virtual visits for all clinics and services to continue to provide patient care.
  • Personal protective equipment (PPE) drive to acquire the vast amounts of PPE to protect staff.
  • Sharing education with the community on preventing the spread of COVID-19 through social media, radio interviews, and a web page, WMMC.com/COVID.

With her dedicated leadership, WMMC also led many COVID-19 initiatives for Johnson County. She worked with the Johnson County Incident Commander to open up a county-wide Emergency Operations Center (EOC) and advised the Johnson County COVID-19 Taskforce. She was instrumental in implementing a masking ordinance, education for businesses and county residents, and county support to decrease the burden on the healthcare system. She also led the launch of programs like “TeamUp2CleanUp,” creating challenges within our community to sanitize high touch surfaces twice daily.

“I want to thank our entire staff, community and county for their support and grace during this time,” says Darinda Dick, CEO. “Our staff ran into the face of fear to care for their patients, which often means caring for your friends, family, and loved ones. We would not have achieved this level of care without our entire team working together.”

WMMC is honored to have a CEO dedicated to their community the way Darinda has been to Johnson County. To learn more about WMMC’s response to COVID-19, visit WMMC.com/COVID.
