WMMC Designated as a Level III Stemi (Heart Attack) Center

Warrensburg, MO (May 29, 2018)—Western Missouri Medical Center (WMMC) is pleased to invite the community to celebrate the medical center being designated as a Level III STEMI (ST-elevation myocardial infarction, heart attack) Center on Thursday, June 7 from 7:30 – 8:30 am in the WMMC Main Entrance.

With this designation, WMMC has now received its third and final designation of the Missouri Emergency Medical Care Time Critical Diagnosis (TDS) System: Level III Center for Stroke, Trauma and STEMI. These designations mean that WMMC meets the standards to provide definite and timely treatment for stroke, trauma and STEMI patients.

Missouri’s TCD system is designed to provide a quicker response and higher quality care when a patient experiences a time-critical emergency. This system brings together the 9-1-1 response system, ambulance services and hospitals in a more integrated and coordinated approach to ensure patients are given the care they need in order enhance survival rates and heighten a patients chance of recovering from trauma, stroke, and heart attack.

“These designations are a testament to the significant strides our team has made towards improving emergency care,” says Darinda Reberry, WMMC President and Chief Executive Officer. “Being able to provide potentially life-saving treatment to area patients—quickly—instead of spending crucial time traveling to the city for care is our top priority. I’m truly proud of the dedication and passion of all those who helped achieve this milestone.”

Time is of the essence, which is why it is important that anyone with signs (see below) of a heart attack should contact 9-1-1 immediately.

Signs of Heart Attack:

Pain or discomfort in the chest.

  • Feeling lightheaded, nausea or vomiting.
  • Jaw, neck or back pain.
  • Discomfort or pain in the arm or shoulder.
  • Shortness of breath.
  • Symptoms may vary between men and women. Women can experience a heart attack without any chest pressure. They may have shortness of breath, pressure or pain in the lower chest or upper abdomen, dizziness, lightheadedness, upper back pressure or extreme fatigue.
