WMMC to Host Third Annual ‘Blue Ribbon Bash’ Colorectal Cancer Awareness Event on March 21

Warrensburg, MO — Western Missouri Medical Center (WMMC) will host the third annual Blue Ribbon Bash, a colorectal cancer awareness event, on Thursday, March 21 from 6 – 8 p.m. at Milestones Barn (380 MO-13 Business) in Warrensburg.

This free event is designed to provide information about preventing colon cancer, and will include vendor booths, giveaways and a special presentation on colorectal cancer prevention by WMMC general surgeon Dr. Evan Neuls.

Attendees can register for the event and order their exclusive Blue Ribbon Bash T-shirt at wmmc.com/blueribbon.

As part of WMMC’s recognition of Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, individuals who sign up for a colonoscopy in March and complete their screening within 90 days of the Blue Ribbon Bash will be eligible to win cash prizes of up to $500.

According to the American Cancer Society, colorectal cancer is the third most diagnosed cancer and the third most common cause of cancer-related death in both men and women in the United States. However, it ranks second in cancer-related deaths overall and is the leading cause of cancer death in men younger than 50 years of age.

More than half of all colorectal cancers are attributable to modifiable risk factors, such as smoking, an unhealthy diet, high alcohol consumption, physical inactivity, and excess body weight. In addition, a large proportion of colorectal cancer incidence and mortality is preventable through regular screening, surveillance, and high-quality treatment.

Colonoscopies for individuals 45 or older are covered by most insurance providers. To schedule a colonoscopy, visit wmmc.com/colonoscopy or call 660-747-5558.
