WARRENSBURG, MO (June 21, 2018) – Whether you are a coach, student athlete or parent of athlete, you have an opportunity to learn more about some of the most pressing health concerns facing athletes and how to address them by attending the first Sports Medicine Seminar Wednesday, July 11 at the University of Central Missouri.

The seminar is being coordinated by Western Missouri Medical Center and UCM Nutrition and Kinesiology. Activities take place on the UCM campus with registration beginning at 8 a.m. in the Ward Edwards Building, followed by the seminar, 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. This includes presentations from local experts from WMMC’s Sports Medicine and Orthopedic team, presentations from UCM’s expert faculty, as well as exclusive tours of the university’s state-of-the-art kinesiology labs located in the Student Recreation and Wellness Center.

Among issues to be discussed is the value of conducting EKG screenings for student athletes as a way to uncover possible heart conditions that could affect their health and performance. Dr.  David Glover, a Warrensburg physician who also has served as a doctor for UCM athletic teams for many years, will kick off the seminar with this insightful discussion.

Other presentations include a focus on the female athlete by Dr. Dana Brewington, family and sports medicine specialist in Warrensburg, and a presentation related to heat illness and concussions featuring Dr. Drew Glover, family and sports medicine specialist in Warrensburg who also works with athletes. A panel discussion, which includes remarks by an orthopedic surgeon, and a networking lunch with motivational speaker round out the morning events, Afternoon activities include tours of UCM’s Human Performance, Biomechanics, and Athletic Training labs conducted by faculty members representing the kinesiology area, Drs. Whitley Stone, Scott Strohmeyer, Brian Hughes and Molly Jennings.

The cost for attending the seminar, which includes lunch, is $20 per individual. A discount rate of $15 per person is offered for groups of four or more.
