Early detection saves lives—and this important initiative is already well underway at Western Missouri Medical Center.

Thanks to strong community support, nearly two-thirds of this project is already funded, bringing advanced breast cancer screening technology closer to reality for women in our region. This investment ensures faster, more accurate screenings, shorter wait times, improved comfort, and earlier diagnoses—when treatment is most effective.

This project reflects WMMC’s commitment to providing exceptional care close to home. With continued support, we will complete the final phase and expand access to life-saving diagnostic tools for our community.

Why This Project Matters

Breast cancer remains a leading cause of death among women in our community. To strengthen early detection and diagnostic capabilities, WMMC committed to an $880,000 investment in advanced imaging technology.

  • $25,000 is already committed by WMMC for facility upgrades.
  • $855,000 funded through donor support
  • Nearly 72% of the overall project is complete, with one major phase already finished.

This project includes:

  • Two Fujifilm ASPIRE Cristalle 3D Mammography Systems
    • One with stereotactic biopsy capabilities
  • One Samsung RS85 Prestige Ultrasound Machine designed for dense breast tissue

Together, these tools improve accuracy, reduce delays in care, and support earlier, life-saving diagnoses.

Meet the Machine: Fujifilm ASPIRE Cristalle

A key part of this initiative is the Fujifilm ASPIRE Cristalle 3D Mammography System, designed for accuracy, safety, and patient comfort.

  • Comfort Paddle: Even compression reduces discomfort during exams
  • Hexagonal Close Pattern (HCP) Technology: Increases imaging efficiency by 20% while lowering radiation exposure
  • Digital Breast Tomosynthesis (DBT): Captures detailed 3D images for better detection of abnormalities
  • Advanced Imaging Software (S-View & ISR): Produces clearer images with less noise, reducing the need for repeat exams

This system allows WMMC to provide faster, more precise, and more comfortable screenings, helping clinicians detect cancer earlier and save lives.

Meet the Samsung RS85 Prestige Ultrasound Machine

The Samsung RS85 Prestige Ultrasound Machine is part of the project’s second and final phase, which is currently in progress.

  • High-Resolution Imaging: Provides detailed views of breast tissue to detect subtle abnormalities.
  • Advanced Doppler & Elastography: Helps differentiate between benign and malignant tissue for faster, more accurate results.
  • Improved Patient Comfort: Non-invasive, quick, and safe procedure for women of all ages.
  • Early Detection Advantage: Critical for women with dense breast tissue, where mammograms alone may miss abnormalities.

Once fully funded, this technology will further strengthen WMMC’s ability to provide comprehensive breast cancer diagnostics.
