Warrensburg, MO — Western Missouri Medical Center (WMMC) has received three American Heart Association Get With The Guidelines® achievement awards for demonstrating commitment to following up-to-date, research-based guidelines for the treatment of heart disease and stroke, ultimately leading to more lives saved, shorter recovery times and fewer readmissions to the hospital.
Get With The Guidelines puts the expertise of the American Heart Association and American Stroke Association into practice by helping ensure patient care is aligned with the latest evidence- and research-based guidelines. As a participant in the Get With The Guidelines programs, WMMC qualified for the awards by demonstrating how the hospital has committed to improving quality care.
This year, WMMC received these achievement awards:
- Get With The Guidelines®-Rural Stroke Gold
- Get With The Guidelines®-Rural Coronary Artery Disease STEMI Gold
- Get With The Guidelines®-Coronary Artery Disease STEMI Referring Bronze Plus
WMMC previously received the Get With The Guidelines® – Stroke Rural Recognition Silver award in 2024. The advancement to the Gold award and additional recognition for STEMI care in 2025 are the result of applying the most up-to-date evidence-based treatment guidelines to improve patient care and outcomes in the local community.
A ST elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) is a severe type of heart attack where a coronary artery is completely blocked, leading to a lack of oxygen supply to the heart muscle and potential damage. STEMI patients require time-critical treatment that restores blood flow as quickly as possible to prevent irreversible heart damage.
“We’re proud to be acknowledged for the dedicated work our team does every day to enhance care for stroke and STEMI patients,” said Darinda Dick, WMMC President and CEO. “By focusing on these time-sensitive conditions, we’re ensuring patients in our community receive the critical interventions necessary to improve survival rates and long-term recovery.”
“These awards show WMMC’s commitment to caring for those in their community who need cardiovascular care,” said Donald Lloyd-Jones, past volunteer president of the American Heart Association and current volunteer chair of the Association’s Quality Oversight Committee. “By following the American Heart Association’s quality improvement protocols, WMMC can help realize our shared vision of improved patient outcomes, fewer readmissions and lower mortality rates — a win for health care systems, families and communities.”
Heart disease and stroke are the No. 1 and No. 5 causes of death in the United States, respectively, according to the American Heart Association 2025 Statistical Update. Studies show patients can recover better when providers consistently follow treatment guidelines.
