WMMC’s Foundation Event Raises $50,000 for Cancer Care Project

Warrensburg, MO (January 28, 2019) —
Western Missouri Medical Center’s (WMMC) Foundation held the first annual fundraising event, Fire & Ice: Vegas Royale on January 25th, 2019 to raise money towards the Advancing Cancer Care, Closer to Home project.

With over 200 attendees, the Fire & Ice: Vegas Royale event was an fun-filled night to raise money for equipment that would help diagnose and provide treatment for cancer patients. The event featured classic casino games, live auction items, raffles, an open bar, and live action dining.

The Foundation’s Special Events Committee, Meridith Sauer, Jennie Snapp, Tracy Delaney, Erica Spurgeon, Tara Carlyle, Nicole Riek, Jessie Abney, Melissa Rice, Sara Johnson, Jessica Lund, and Kristi Westhead.

“Being able to witness a community come together to raise money for the WMMC Foundation’s campaign ‘Advancing Cancer Care, Closer to Home’ was so heartwarming,” says Jessica Lund, Chair of the Special Events Committee. This event wouldn’t have been possible without all the time and planning from foundation members on this committee.

Additionally, a special thank you to all of the businesses and community members that sponsored or donated time, gift baskets, raffle items, and live auction items to help make this event a huge success.

The Fire & Ice: Vegas Royale inaugural event exceeded the original fundraising goal of $25,000. After expenses the event raised $50,119.00 from sponsorships, ticket sales, auction items and donations.

All of the proceeds will be donated to Advancing Cancer Care, Closer to Home project. This project will help provide WMMC with medical equipment for cancer treatment and comfort suites. Included is an EBUS Machine that helps to diagnose cancer, and a portable ultrasound machine that will help providers locate and diagnose medical problems. Additionally to be purchased is a radioactive navigator that will help surgeons to identify cancer during surgery, and family comfort suites for a private space for family to be near their loved ones.
