Have a Heart – Know Your Risk for Heart Disease

Warrensburg, MO (Feb. 2, 2017)—Western Missouri Medical Center (WMMC) is celebrating American Heart Month (February). Join WMMC in spreading awareness and learning your risks in order to make a proactive plan to combat heart disease for yourself and the people you love.

Heart disease is the number one killer of women, causing 1 in 3 deaths among women each year. (American Heart Association) Join WMMC on Friday, February 3, as we #GoRed for women in solidarity with the American Heart Association by wearing red and posting a photo of your outfit on Facebook, tagging @WesternMoMed with the caption #GoRed.

#GoRed, but also go one step further by taking real action to assess your risk for heart disease. WMMC offers heart scans for ONLY $50. WMMC encourages community members to give the gift of preventative heart health this Valentine’s Day with a gift certificate for this screening, which can be purchased in the Diagnostic Imaging Department (located off the Outpatient Entrance).

Heart scans are a safe, painless test used to assess the risk for heart attack by measuring the amount of calcium in the walls of arteries that supply the heart with blood. The exam is non-invasive and uses a computerized tomography (CT) scan that takes less than 30 minutes, enabling patients to determine their risk for heart disease and work with their physician to take action.

Not sure if you need a heart scan? The WMMC Auxiliary is hosting a FREE community seminar to discuss “Matters of the Heart” on Wednesday, Feb. 15, from 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm. The event will be held in Conference Room 1 at WMMC, left off the main entrance.

Let’s talk heart-to-heart about your risk factors and how to modify those risks during this free event with Valerie Rader, M.D., Cardiologist at Saint Luke’s Cardiovascular Consultants, a partner of WMMC. Dr. Rader will discuss the importance of your heart health and answer any questions during the Q & A session.
