Meet Christy Evers, Doctor of Nursing Practice, Certified Nurse Midwife!

My name is Christy Evers and I am a Doctor of Nursing Practice, Certified Nurse Midwife. My doctoral education focused on process improvement and research to improve clinical outcomes and I am the first DNP and CNM at Western Missouri Medical Center (WMMC). As a component of my doctoral preparation, I had the privilege to design and implement a quality improvement project that focused on high risk patients with preeclampsia. I look forward to applying my education and skill set for quality improvement projects that will best impact our community.

As a student nurse midwife, I had the opportunity to work with one of our exceptional providers, Krysta Ramirez Henry, CNM, who introduced me to the culture of WMMC where I felt at home and now have the honor of working here. The culture at Western Missouri Women’s Health Center starts with the physicians and other CNMs, where the sole focus is the exceptional care of women. As a team, the communication between the office staff, the labor and delivery staff, and the ancillary departments, including but not limited to, lab, ultrasound, food service, and environmental services, creates a cohesive team where our patients are at the very center.

I started my career in healthcare as an obstetric technician while attending nursing school. I knew in school that I wanted to work in labor and delivery. As a labor and delivery nurse, I had the opportunity to be a part of one the most important days of these families lives. I loved that bond I developed with these families. I knew that I wanted to be a midwife, because with greater responsibilities I would have more opportunities to develop relationships and bonds while providing holistic care to families. My passion is women and promoting the normalcy of childbirth, exceptional care for women’s health, and collaborative relationships between providers and patients.

A fun fact about me is that I was the first the student on the Kansas State American College of Nurse Midwives (ACNM) Board of Directors, in a position that was created to involve students into the organization.

Christy’s Favorite Tip for New Moms: When your newborn gets up to eat in the middle of night, brush your teeth to help you wake up. The burst of mint helps wake you up for a few minutes while still allowing you to fall back asleep after feeding your baby.
