WMMC Designated as a Level III Trauma Center

Warrensburg, MO (Jan. 05, 2017)—Western Missouri Medical Center (WMMC) is proud to announce that the medical center is now designated as a Level III Trauma Center, meaning that area residents can feel assured in their time critical trauma care at WMMC.

Severe injury requires prompt care for the best outcomes in recovery and survival. Missouri’s Time Critical Diagnosis (TCD) designation system helps first responders identify nearby hospitals that are equipped to treat time critical patients. Missouri’s TCD designation system was created by the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services in partnership with the Missouri Foundation for Health and over 400 healthcare and emergency professionals across the state. Missouri hospitals can apply for TCD designation in three-time critical areas: stroke, STEMI and trauma.

WMMC is now designated for both stroke and trauma with plans to pursue a STEMI center designation. These designations mean that WMMC meets the standards to provide definite and timely treatment for both stroke and trauma patients. The medical center now provides 24-hour trauma care.

“These designations are a testament to the significant strides in improving processes and quality of care in our emergency department,” says Darinda Reberry, WMMC President and Chief Executive Officer. “As a designated Level III Stroke and Trauma Center, WMMC is able to provide potentially life-saving treatment to area patients right away—instead of our local residents spending crucial time on their way to the city for care.”

Unintentional injury or trauma is the fifth leading cause of death in Missouri. It is also cited as the most frequent cause of visits to the emergency department. Timely care is crucial for serious injury in order to reduce disability and improve outcomes.
