WMMC Foundation’s $1 Million Capital Campaign Will Elevate Patient Care with New Technology

Warrensburg, MO (May 24, 2023) — The Western Missouri Medical Center (WMMC) Foundation has announced their most extensive capital campaign to date, with a goal to raise $1 million to bring new technology to the hospital and improve the quality of care for cancer, cardiovascular and stroke patients.

WMMC’s 2023 capital campaign, “Raising the Bar: Elevating Care to New Heights,” will raise funds for a new Computed Tomography (CT) machine with state-of-the-art imaging technology and Interventional Radiology components. The campaign will also make hospital renovations possible, accommodating the new CT machine.

The WMMC Foundation announced the campaign on May 2 with their annual Day of Giving event, raising over $11,500 in donations.

“In this dynamic world of medical technology, we are excited to bring state-of-art equipment to WMMC,” said Jan Glover, WMMC Foundation Board President. “Over 40 new procedures can be made available at the hospital by providing interventional radiology for patients.”

“As our capabilities grow, so does the need for advanced technology. The interventional capabilities and an additional CT expands the services we can provide through interventional radiology and ensures we have the capacity during critical situations, never needing to turn a patient away. As a designated stroke, trauma, and STEMI (heart attack) center, we are providing a higher level of care, which means we are seeing more critical patients,” said Darinda Dick, President and CEO of WMMC.

Interventional Radiology (IR) is a growing medical specialty that enables doctors to perform surgical procedures to diagnose, treat and cure a variety of conditions in a minimally invasive way. IR uses a combination of procedures and imaging technology, such as ultrasound and digital X-ray, to diagnose and treat disease. It focuses on blood vessels and the lymphatic system and can treat a wide range of conditions from cancer to infertility.

Benefits of IR for patients compared to traditional surgery include increased effectiveness, reduced risks, lower costs and quicker recovery times. IR can often make outpatient treatment options possible rather than requiring an inpatient stay at the hospital.

Since 2016, the WMMC Foundation has raised over $1.3 million to fund a variety of projects, including scholarships for students pursuing careers in healthcare, grants for employees in need, the purchase of new healthcare equipment and the remodeling of patient-facing areas in the hospital.
