WMMC Nurse Residency Program

Warrensburg, MO (December 6, 2017)—Western Missouri Medical Center (WMMC) is excited to announce the launch of a Nurse Residency Program in January 2018. This program is to ensure that the nursing staff in our community is well-trained, highly competent and compassionate.

The residency program is to assist newly licensed nurses in their transition from student to professional nurse. Through a curriculum that focuses on leadership, patient safety, professional role and skills, this program is designed to support newly licensed nurses during their first year of practice.

“Launching a Nurse Residency Program has been a goal of mine since becoming Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) in 2016,” said Jennifer Koepke, RN, MHSA, CPHQ, Vice President of Patient Care Services/Chief Nursing Officer. “We expect that this program will increase skills, leadership, commitment and professionalism in our new nurses as well as interprofessional teamwork and increased retention throughout the medical center.”

The first cohert in the nurse residency program is anticipated to begin their residency in mid-January with an expected two cohorts of residents per year.
