WMMC Supports the Importance of Mammogram Screenings

Warrensburg, MO (September 28, 2017)—Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women, among nearly every racial and ethnic group. Western Missouri Medical Center (WMMC) is encouraging women to make their breast health a priority by scheduling their annual mammogram screenings during the month of October.

In a step towards breast health awareness in our community, WMMC’s Diagnostic Imaging department has been enhancing processes and technology for patients. WMMC’s 3D mammography machine scans more breast tissue than any other machine on the market, resulting in more images for more information. By offering 3D mammograms, read by a board-certified radiologist, WMMC has the ability to detect breast cancer at an earlier stage through more clarity and accuracy.

Early detection and screenings are key to a successful treatment. Many women with breast cancer have no symptoms. This is why regular screenings are so important. Mammogram screenings can detect breast cancer when it is small and localized before it becomes a lump and causes symptoms.

WMMC is one of the first in the Kansas City area to also offer 3D breast ultrasounds, a new technology that enables breast cancer screenings in patients with dense breasts or patients younger than 35 with a strong family history.

Stand with WMMC against breast cancer this October by calling (660) 262-7370 to schedule your annual mammogram screening. Additionally, women are invited to join WMMC and the University of Central Missouri Health Center for an annual Ladies’ Night Out event on Oct. 5 from 5:00 – 8:00 pm in the UCM Ballroom. Learn more and RSVP at WMMC.com/mammo.
