Meet Krysta Ramirez Henry, Certified Nurse Midwife!

I have over 20 years of experience in women’s health nursing with the last eight years as a certified nurse midwife. Since joining Western Missouri Women’s Health group in 2011 I have had the pleasure of getting to greet 1000 babies into this world. I have also been a preceptor to over 20 nurse practitioner students, several whom now also work for Western Missouri Medical Center.

I chose to be a certified nurse midwife because I support the philosophy of honoring the normalcy of women’s lifecycle events.  What I love most about my job is I am able to empower women. Whether it is by helping a woman have the birth of their dreams or helping women find the right birth control to ensure they are able to reach their educational or career goals. I think one of my favorite moments in this job is when I am able to have a mom reach down and help bring her baby into the world. I also love showing off the placenta.

I received both my bachelors and masters in nursing at the University of Kansas. I am board certified through the American Midwifery Certification Board and I am an active member of the American College of Nurse Midwives.

This fall I will be cutting back my hours at WMMC to allow time to start my doctorate of nursing and take a more active role in teaching future nurse midwives. However I will still be seeing patients in the clinic every Tuesdays from 9-430 and taking call.

Outside of work I can be found with my husband at one of our three teenagers’ sporting events. I might also be found with my nose in a book or out running.
