Warrensburg, MO (January 12, 2021)— The Western Missouri Medical Center (WMMC) Advanced Wound Center has received the distinguished Center of the Year award from Healogics®. Over 600 Wound Care Centers® had the opportunity to qualify for the award, and only six received it. WMMC Advanced Wound Center exemplifies quality patient care and clinical outcomes. In order to qualify for Center of the Year, stringent quality measures must be met, such as high healing outcomes, low days to heal and excellent patient satisfaction rates.

WMMC Advanced Wound Center is a member of the Healogics network of over 600 Wound Care Centers, with access to benchmarking data and proven experience treating approximately 2.5 million chronic wounds. The Advanced Wound Center offers highly specialized wound care to patients suffering from diabetic ulcers, pressure ulcers, infections and other chronic wounds that have not healed in a reasonable amount of time. The Advanced Wound center provided specialized treatment to more than 314 patients in 2019, often preventing amputations and helping patients return to active lives.

Leading edge treatments at the Center include negative pressure wound therapy, total contact casting, bio-engineered tissues, biosynthetic dressings and growth factor therapies. The Center also offers hyperbaric oxygen therapy, which works by surrounding the patient with 100 percent oxygen to help progress the healing of the wound.

“We have an outstanding team of physicians and staff that are committed to providing advanced quality wound care to our patients with hard to heal wounds,” said Paula Carpenter, Advanced Wound Center Program Director. “It is an honor to be recognized with this award and we consider it a great privilege to be able to offer this service to Warrensburg and the surrounding communities.”

The Advanced Wound Center at WMMC uses a full complement of tools to heal your wound – whether you’ve had it for weeks, months or even years. The Wound Center treats multiple types of wounds including diabetic ulcers, venous and arterial ulcers, pressure sores, traumatic wounds, non-healing surgical wounds and post-radiation wounds. The vast majority of our patients can be healed in just a few weeks, regardless of how long they may have had their wounds. To accomplish this, we utilize advanced treatments such as weekly debridements, advanced dressings and compression, bioengineered skin substitutes and rigid leg casts for off-loading wounds. In addition, some patients can benefit from hyperbaric oxygen therapy, where they enter a pressurized chamber and breathe 100 percent oxygen for two hours a day, five days a week.
